Do what you like.

During the class, we’ve discussed about whether audition programs are good or bad, but I think there is no good or bad. If i have to choose either good or bad, i would probably choose good. People who are against audition programs say that it spurs our society to be more competitive, and extreme competition divide people into losers or winners. However, the truth is that our society is already so competitive. Everyone has to be more educated and have more qualifications to success. I guess that  some people feel uncomfortable watching severe competitions because they already know we live in a high competitive society. It’s not that they stimulating the competition but it’s reflecting our society.

Positive thing about it is that it shows that anyone who has specialty can success even though he or she is not studying or getting  qualifications same as others. Not only one winner earn success. Those who made to final, nearly most of them get a chance to chase after their dream.

The lesson what I got from audition program is ‘Do what you like.’ It might sound cliche but I always get to forget that. We get to follow societal norms    keeping the desire to chase after our dream. Audition programs reminds of me that value. I always wanted to be an announcer since I was 10 then I gave up for few reasons when i was 21. I thought it wasn’t realistic dream and i need to have a second option. Not soon later, dream to be an announcer became a second option. Watching the audition program looking for announcer made my heart beat and made me realize that i become the happiest person when I do what I like to do. In this crazy competitive society, i hope everyone not to forget what they want and like.

Saudi Arabian Women Driving Issue.

What do you feel when you hear the word ‘feminism’? At some point the word ‘feminism’ has turned into a negative word. It seems that women’s right has improved a lot compared to old days and some people say that now there are reverse discrimination toward guys in result of protecting women’s right. Is it really though? My friends started to get a job and women get paid less then men when both are new employee and women have less opportunity to be promoted. In company’s perspective, they don’t want to invest in women employee since they are more likely to leave when they get pregnant. But I still think that it’s unfair and it should be that way that they give more opportunity to those who worked hard, long and committed to their company no matter they are women or men.

Back to our issue. In Saudi Arabia, there seems to be a movement to improve women’s right. People who are against to women driving a car say that, it’s because men are supposed to protect and take care of women. Driving a car is dangerous so by not letting women drive, men are taking care of their women. However, I strongly think that they should let women decide. Saying that they are protecting but ignoring women’s need is not really taking care.

I personally thought that feminism has been considered among men as a bad word because some of them feel threatened thinking giving women more right means being invaded privilege that they have. And I think the same thing is happening in Saudi Arabia. The cultural background is men should protect their women, but the authority they get from that idea would be something that they don’t want to give up.

more efforts are needed.

Formula1, how many Koreans would be interested in and want to visit this big event? 150,000? I doubt it. However, It may be possible to hold even more than 200,000 people if they success with building better infrastructure that they have now and public relations.

Last year, Korea held F1 for the first time, race itself was successful but spectators revealed that there are a lot of problems that still need to be fixed. First, most of them were about infrastructure. Accommodations were too distant and not in clean and neat condition, transportation was too inconvenient. Second, most of spectators were people who loved F1 and who already knew about it well. That means that other than them, the majority of public who didn’t know about the F1 well wasn’t there and is not likely to be there in the future too.

F1 2011 will be held just in few days. But most of the public still don’t know what good effect from holding this big event is and why it costs a lot especially when they consider the money that would cost other than just tickets. There has been a logo of F1 Grand prix on the top right of TV programs but still it doesn’t motivate people to want to go and watch the sports and be part of it.

As presenters from last week explained the positive effect that we can expect from holding f1, but the numbers don’t seem to make sense. The host organization can’t just expect people to be taken in there honey words.
Holding one of the biggest events in Korea isn’t really important. The most important thing is that holding one of the biggest events in Korea and having as many spectators as possible and for them to remember it was a great experience so they want to visit again. For that, it seems the host organization and Junranam-do need to work a lot more on that.
